Speaker: Andreas Ellmauthaler, Technical Advisor, Halliburton
Distributed Acoustic Sensing is a fiber-optic sensing technology that converts any standard fiber-optic cable into a distributed sensor capable of measuring acoustic events every 1 meter. Within the oil and gas industry, DAS is a game-changing technology enabling low-cost, on-demand acoustic and seismic monitoring of oil and gas wells in real-time. With maturity and demand for DAS technology growing steadily over the last years, operators have started to express interest in DAS solutions that specifically address the technology challenges associated with subsea well completions such as reduced acoustic bandwidth and increased optical signal loss. In this talk we will give an overview of Halliburton's subsea DAS solution Odassea™ that is capable of addressing these issues, report on the operational experiences from the world’s largest subsea fiber-optic sensing development project currently in execution in offshore Guyana, and provide a look forward to what lies ahead.
Speaker Biography: Andreas Ellmauthaler, Technical Advisor, Halliburton
Dr. Andreas Ellmauthaler is the Technical Advisor for Halliburton’s subsea fiber-optic sensing product line. Within Halliburton, he has held prior roles in technology development where we was responsible for the development of novel fiber-optic sensing solutions for oil and gas applications. He received his B.Sc. degree in telecommunications engineering from the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg, Austria, in 2007 and his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2014.
