The GSH maintains a Geoscience Center and Museum in West Houston. This facility is used to store, maintain and refurbish geophysical artifacts in the museum collection that are not presently on display at other locations. Additionally, the Center holds workshops for teachers and includes resources to create interactive displays, hands-on activities, educational materials for school career days, classroom presentations, scouting fairs, science fairs, or other opportunities for interaction with students.

Geoscience Center hours:  Tuesday / Wednesday from 9:00am until 5:00pm, or by appointment. (Contact the GSH office at 281-741-1624)

 

The Geoscience Center and Museum includes artifacts and materials from the 1920’s forward and accepts donations of materials, instruments and documents related to the history of geophysical and geological exploration as well as periodicals from various companies and organizations.  If you would like more information about the GSH Museum or wish to volunteer, please contact Bill Gafford at [email protected] or at 281-620-6156.  

Financial support for the Geoscience Center is always welcome too.  Donations can be made through the GSH website home page by using the “Donate” button, or through the “Donate Now” button below.  Checks may be sent to the GSH office at 1790 W Sam Houston Pkwy N., Houston, TX  77043, with a note stating that the donation is for the Geoscience Center.  Also, check to see if your company has a matching donation program.  The GSH is a 501(c)(3) organization.

The Museum accepts artifacts, photos and other items which document the rich history of the geophysical profession and related industries. All items are catalogued and preserved. Temporary and permanent displays are prepared and installed at the Geoscience Center and at various educational institutions and company offices in Texas and beyond.

 

Bob Sheriff Library

The museum also includes the Bob Sheriff Library, with a collection of over 2500+ books, manuals, and periodicals. Many library items are available for check out or use at the Geoscience Center.  The library is organized into categories to help search for topics of interest.

Living Legends Social Gathering: **Moved to Wednesday

Retired or nearly retired doodlebuggers, and their spouses are invited, as well as anyone who is interested in visiting our Geoscience Center.  This is a chance to visit with some of the Legends in our industry and see some of our more interesting geoscience artifacts and some of the Mystery Items that have been featured in the GSH Journals.  This is a free event, no reservation is needed and parking is free. Light snacks, coffee, soft drinks, and water will be provided.   For more information click here
