Speaker: Yashee Mathur, Stanford University, Dept of Energy Science and Engineering
Co-Author: Tapan Mukerji, Stanford University

Hydrogen’s role is undebatable in the future energy mix owing to its energy density, use in different industries, long-term energy storage capabilities, and minimal CO2 production. The Earth hosts vast resources of naturally occurring hydrogen in different geological environments but the exploration for natural hydrogen is still in the very early stages. Abiogenic sources such as serpentinization and radiolysis are considered the main secondary sources of natural hydrogen generation. Rock physics and geophysical methods have been used over decades to characterize hydrocarbon reservoirs, minerals, and groundwater resources which has in turn led to a better understanding of these resources and a more efficient exploration. The talk aims to discuss how these techniques can be adapted for hydrogen reservoir characterization as well as their individual merits.

Speaker Biography: Yashee Mathur, Stanford University, Dept of Energy Science and Engineering
Yashee is a 3rd-year Ph.D. candidate in the Energy Resources and Engineering department at Stanford University. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Applied Geology from IIT Dhanbad, India. With more than 3 years as a Petrophysicist in India and experience as an AI and Machine Learning researcher at Shell USA, Yashee bridges the gap between geoscience and technology. Her Ph.D. focuses on developing methods for Natural Hydrogen exploration, using geochemistry, geophysics, rock physics, and machine learning. She's committed to advancing the understanding of natural hydrogen.
