Speaker: Sabrina Reichert, UT Austin Jackson School of Geosciences

Using marine multi-channel seismic (MCS) reflection data from the Florida Atlantic Margin Evolution (FLAME) project, I will explore the stratigraphic profiles of the Blake Plateau Basin and Carolina Trough using the results of seismic interpretation. The deformational and depositional history of the Jurassic North American-African plate boundary is evident in key features such as the J-Horizon, Paleozoic basement, antidunes, truncations, and other erosional signatures. This detailed analysis holds the potential to define not just a better-constrained geophysical understanding of the Blake and Carolina regions, but also a more accurate correlation of Paleozoic basement strata to the presence of the J-Horizon.

Speaker Biography: Sabrina Reichert, UT Austin Jackson School of Geosciences

Sabrina Reichert is a graduate of Columbia University, Class of 2020. She completed her senior thesis in Environmental Chemistry at Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory, with a focus on foraminiferal Cenozoic paleoclimate proxies. Upon graduation, Sabrina worked at SUNY Stony Brook as a graduate research assistant until her transition in June 2023 to the UT Austin Jackson School of Geosciences PhD program. Now at UT, Sabrina works with Harm Van Avendonk and Nathan Bangs on the interpretation of marine seismic reflection and refraction data to better understand stratigraphic and magmatic phenomena. She is also the president of the Texas Geophysical Society (TGS), UT Austin’s SEG chapter, and an active freelance writer with work published in Lab News UK, RealClearEnergy, and UTIG’s media platforms.
