Membership Types and Qualifications

GSH offers several types of individual memberships depending upon your education, experience, and interest. The standard membership term runs from July 1st to June 30th of each calendar year.

Please review the member types and their qualifications before proceeding with your application.

Active: $60.00 per year

Any person shall be eligible to be an Active Member if they: (1) have a degree in geophysics or other geoscience discipline from an accredited college or university and have been engaged in the professional practice of geoscience for at least one year; or (2) have been engaged in the professional practice of geoscience for at least six years.

Practicing is defined to include research, teaching, and operational aspects of all geophysical data acquisition, processing, interpretation, and the marketing of these above techniques and products.

- Petition the Council or Executive Committee
- Publish Affiliation with the Society
Associate: $60.00 per year

Any person actively interested in geophysics shall be eligible to be an Associate Member. Associate Members shall have privileges of membership except the rights to vote, to petition, and to hold office.

Emeritus: $30.00 per year

Any Member in good standing who has attained the age of 60, and has been an Active or Associate Member either of the Society or of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists for a total of thirty years, including time spent in military service.

Student: Free

Any full-time graduate or undergraduate student at a recognized college or university and interested in geophysics. Eligibility for this membership class shall terminate on June 30 after the student ceases to be a full-time student.  All applicants will be verified with their attending university.
