Speaker: Dr. Daniel Bigman, Bigman Geophysical LLC

This presentation will briefly review the basic concepts of ground penetrating radar and explore the diversified and creative applications that this technology can be used for. Data and case studies will be presented from a wide variety of contexts including civil and structural engineering, archaeology and historic preservation, forensic investigations and cemetery mapping, and environmental applications. The objective of this presentation is to expose attendees to the vast uses of ground penetrating radar and show the range of exciting pathways that young professionals can take during the evolution of their careers.

Speaker Biography: Daniel Bigman, Bigman Geophysical, LLC
Dr Daniel Bigman received his PhD from the University of Georgia and is an expert in non-invasive subsurface mapping and 3D imaging. His graduate research focused on the applications of near-surface geophysics to archaeological and historical contexts, and following graduate school he taught at several universities in Georgia. Since moving into the private sector and launching Bigman Geophysical LLC, Dr. Bigman has conducted geophysical investigations, structural inspections, and technical training on four different continents (North America, Europe, Asia, Australia). He has collaborated with scholars on innovative remote sensing research regarding archaeological, forensic, and civil/structural engineering applications. The results of these investigations have been published in peer-reviewed academic journals of international reputation such as Journal of Archaeological Science and Near Surface Geophysics. Dr. Bigman has been invited to speak about his research to the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers in Germany, the National Association of Utility Locating Professionals in Australia, and King Fahd University of Mineral and Petroleum Exploration in Saudi Arabia. He is currently an associate editor of Fast TIMES, the leading North American trade magazine in near-surface geophysics, and was on the board of directors of the Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society.
